I however get a chuckle of what comes out of the mouths of kids. Our cute little neighbor girl who greets us almost everyday with a wave and a smile, and sometimes...small talk.

As I was unloading groceries from my car, she ran over and said hello with a smile and a wave. I replied and continued to grab my bags. She stood there for a moment, you could tell she was pondering something and that she wanted to say something. She finally managed to open her mouth and the following creeped out. "Hey, so I was thinking. You LOVE Halloween, huh?" she asked with her hands in her pockets slowly rocking back and forth on her heels. "Yes. Yes I do. It's a fun Holiday don't you think?" I replied back. She smiled and nodded. Thinking I had to answer her question, but it was soon followed by another one. "Sooooo, you like Halloween, you have a BLACK cat, and you have dark hair."
Okay random. I smiled and again replied. "Yes, you know what. I guess I do." I smiled, and she got this huge grin obviously proud of her self she yelled. " I KNEW IT! You must be a....WITCH!"

Stunned and laughing, I composed myself and turned around. She was smiling bigger, and said. I won't tell, but I know your a good Witch. I explained to her that NO, I am not a witch. I just happen to love Halloween, have a black cat and dark hair. I never thought that I would need to defined myself to a 9 year old. Needless to say, it made me smile and I had a lovely chat with her mother. I just wish now I would have pointed and said...."Maybe I am."

R. October has been a crazy fun. I was invited to speak at East Elementary in Roosevelt. What a SPOOK-TACULAR school, staff and students! I was welcomed with open arms and had a great day. It was alot of speaking but, oh how I loved the questions from the kiddo's.

My Fridays and Saturdays are full with events, which is a great thing. I love, love, love this time of year. The chilly fall weather and sharing my book with kids. The heat is slowly rising as my days are getting longer. In the past few months I have taken sometime off writing. The months have felt long without writing. I will jot things down here and there for ideas. Then I look back at it and think, what is it that I am going for? What is it about? Obviously, I don't have the answer yet, but hopefully soon.

But with summer and the long days, I have found that I am spending more and more time playing rather then working on my writing. But, it appears to be a prolonged argument with myself on trying to fit it all in at the same time. I am still struggling to make sense of what my next few books are about. I feel that I need to be 10 steps ahead of myself in order to get things done.

I just finished reading The Yankee Years, by Joe Torre, and I loved it. As a HUGE Halloween fanatic, I am also a HUGE Baseball fan. Summer is an excuse for every person to revert back to their summer days. When times were so different. Summer sorta takes us back. My summer days were filled with neighborhood BBQ's, friends whom I was attached to the hip too, summer night games and Baseball games. The smell of the hot dogs and an ice cold beer. Ahhhh I love it. The sounds of the announcers rumbling thru the stadium, and the quick brisk breeze that would wave across the infield to cool your hot skin.

I love summer, almost as much as I love fall. I find that the next few months I will still be jotting ideas down for books, but for now...I think I will enjoy my summer days and nights. Who knows maybe there is an adventure just around the corner.

R. I have felt so blocked.
So...the last few months, at least, I thought I'd dig deeper in finding some muse. I know I haven't written on the blog for some time. Actually it has been since October. And these days, when I have free time I am home, relaxing, watching my new favorite show.....Cake Boss. This show I faithfully watch. It seems like within the last few years the reality shows have swarmed television. I will admit, I find myself stopping on such shows as Survivor, DOG the bounty hunter, and yes...I hate to admit it but, Jersey Shore. I take full responsibility and admit I watch these brain numbing reality shows.

You have to admit it is amusing. Where do they find these people? It is a television show unlike anything else currently on for reality shows. The characters are that of shallow self proclaimed Guido's and Jersey girls. Giving Italian Americans like myself a bad rap. I promise we ALL don;t act like that. If anything my family acts more like the Valastro's on Cake Boss. The background of the family is eerily familiar. They own a Bakery, My family owned a Cafe. We really are a loud family, each character or family member has quirks.

One night, as I sat and watched Cake Boss. It hit me. I had an idea of what I needed to write. I jumped up and grabbed my laptop and started writing and it just flowed. Months and months of nothing and it finally hit me. I love to write, I love to read and I love to share. So as you read this I have 4, yes 4 books in process and two of which are ready to roll. I am using my dear friend and awesome illustrator Melissa Green for the newest Children's book. Keep your eyes out for the new book sneak peeks. I am painfully sorry that I have not blogged in a few months, but it was so nice to be with family and friends for the holidays and even take a much needed vacation. I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season, and this New Year brings you joy and happiness.

Happy Haunting!
Roni

R. The brisk fall air nipping out our heels letting us know Halloween is just around the corner. This morning as I got up I actually had to grab a heaver blanket. I love it! Fall is such a busy time for me, and I love it. We have our annual Halloween party that is upcoming in a few weeks and we have been planning on the costumes, décor and ghoulish food. We tend to be a little overboard with the Halloween party, but that's what makes it fun! I am also excited for all of the upcoming school events and book signings. I love going and speaking with students, teachers and friends. Not only is it a fun experience for myself, but the students seem to love it no matter what age. This month to me is a fun and festive month. No matter the older I get the funnier I have with the holiday.

As I arrived home the other day I noticed two large packages on the front porch. Yes, you guessed it. Our Halloween costumes. As I ran inside with the packages, I was like the fat kid in Willy Wonka's. I ripped open the boxes and yanked out the costumes. As I slipped the costumes on insuring that it fit. I was so excited. I can't believe I am….(ummm let’s not age ourselves), but I still get so excited. The costumes looked great, fit well and back to the box they went. Decorating was the last of many steps in an ongoing, inevitable and long overdue process of the Halloween Spirit. Call it an embracing of my inner ghoulish child.

Back in the day, we, all of my siblings, would be so excited to go out trick or treating. Putting the face makeup on, getting our costumes just how we wanted, helping decorate the house and the smell of leaves, take me back to those moments. As we would scurry out the door to run rampaged thru the neighborhoods collecting free candy. Pillow cases in toe and ready to fill. As a kid I remember the streets being full of kids running around from house to house. These days, it doesn't seem like that anymore. It's kind of sad. I hope that you all embrace your inner child and have a wonderful Halloween and gosh dang it. Dress up in a fun a festive Speaking of costumes; it's worth noting that we are doing a Halloween Costume contest online. But for some it comes with a touch of heaviness. My family as well as many others, is one to have military members. These are the men and women whose hand holds or has held up the highest flag, whose colors wave a bright red, white and blue. With a war still going on, many families are strained and stressed. The economy has taken a large hit, as well as many households, many families and many employers. A lot of our friends and some family are active members of the Military. I grew up in a Military household. I appreciate the Military lifestyle. The choice that these men and women make to let “me” live a life of Freedom and Liberty.
The fourth of July to me used to be a Holiday where my family would be together, laughing and playing. Where we would BBQ and swim at Camp Williams until the loud BOOM was heard and I am my siblings would scatter from the pool to watch the fireworks that light up the dark sky in Utah County. Or helping my parents with the Firework stand in Provo. It was just another Holiday that I counted down to while on summer break from school.
It wasn’t until I got older that I realized that this is so much more then a holiday of fun to me. I have watched many friends and family members go to war. Some came back, others did not. I watched my oldest brother go to war. I watched as he and his wife had to live hundreds of miles apart, because they are both active military members. Do you think that they wanted to be apart? No. But they made the sacrifice. Like a flightless bird, their wings were tied.
I love the fourth of July more so now, then I ever have. Thank you. Thank you to all the men and women that serve our Country. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice for us. And thank you for letting me be free. Free to write and live my life, and to say my peace.
Friends, take this night to remember those who have and are serving our country. Salute your soldiers as they march past you in the parade. Sing loud as they play our Patriotic songs in the band and enjoy the freedom of the day.
I hope that your loved ones are safe and sound. Enjoy your holiday and light a sparkler for me.
Happy 4th of July!
Roni

“If you could thank someone for fighting for our freedom in your life, what would you say and who would it be?”

Events and Upcoming Fun

July 10th- TSA Alliance Fundraiser
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)

Friday July 10th at Camp Williams is the TSA Fundraiser. For those of you who do not know what TSA is, let me give you the background.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. You will see it referred to both as tuberous sclerosis (TS) and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). The term TSC is used in scientific literature to distinguish tuberous sclerosis complex from Tourette's syndrome. The disease affects some people severely, while others are so mildly affected that it often goes undiagnosed. Some people with TSC experience developmental delay, mental retardation and autism. However, there are also many people with TSC living independent, healthy lives who enjoy challenging professions such as doctors, lawyers, educators and researchers. At least two children born each day will have tuberous sclerosis complex. Current estimates place tuberous sclerosis complex-affected births at one in 6,000. Nearly 1 million people worldwide are known to have TSC, with approximately 50,000 in the United States. There are many undiagnosed cases due to the obscurity of the disease and the mild form symptoms may take in some people. TSC is as common as ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) but virtually unknown by the general population.
Thank you to all of my many friends that have contributed to the silent auction, in order to raise money for the Fundraiser. Your jester and kindness was well received. If you would like to donate items or would just like to donate to the cause, please let me know via email at halloweenbooks2007@yahoo.com
All donations are welcome.

Booking Fall Events
I am currently booking for School and private events for the Fall of 2009. If you would like me to come and visit your child's school or private event please email me. I am holding reservation spots now, but it is first come first serve. I know that it is hard to plan dates for the visit. Once we know the dates we will book, but this will at least hold you a spot.
Riverview Jr. High- My students really enjoyed having a published author visit and explain some of the steps and work that is involved in writing and publishing. They also liked the writing activity prepared.
Was it helpful to the student and what they are currently learning about writing and reading? Definitely, they are sometimes detached from the benefit of learning to write and seeing someone who proves that writing can be a living was extremely useful and motivating.
Would you recommend this Author to anyone else? Yes, definitely! Roni is professional, fun and very involved with the class. Jackson, or the King of Pop as many of us fans called him, was known for his hit singles in the early 1980's, as well as his unbanning unique flair and magic he brought to the stage by his famous dance moves. The moon walk will continue as his legacy. His album "Thriller" released in November 1982, remains the best-selling album of all time, according to Billboard magazine, selling over 100 million copies. This is my absolute favorite album by MJ. Since I was little my mother and I would dance to it and sign it aloud. You can bet that I play it every Halloween. The music has touched many of "Halloween" themed community. Haunted houses are dancing to it and a local dance company OTC does a Halloween show every year here in Utah called "THRILLER". Without MJ we wouldn't have any of this.

As the years took a toll on MJ, as many of us looked upon him as a train wreck with all his personal issues, quirkiness and overall oddness. We can all agree his music was amazing. Thank you Micheal for the music, the entertainment and most of all the dance moves! Sure, these are things that I am blessed to have in my life and always ends with love and family. In between are the moments I get to spend with my love as we watch Sports Center together. As my regular blog readers know from www.theoldmanor.blogspot.com, I have been busy booking events for the fall. I always get nervous before a personal appearance or Event for my books. I think, "Oh God. What if no one shows up and there's only a couple of people?" And to be honest, I'm always surprised when people do show up. So to all who do, thank you. I so appreciate the support.
I am always looking for great ideas. Sometimes they come without reservation, and other times I am dumb founded for ideas. At the start of the month I was able to go see Wicked with some old friends. All I can say is "Wow." It is such a wonderful show. The cast is unbelievably talented. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. There is nothing more better than being taken away for a few hours with good theater. It always inspires me to know that this unbelievable show or story was brought to life by a mere idea or thought. Amazing!

With summer nipping at our heels, and the sale of Halloween books being very slow in the summer, my husband and I decided to plan a mini vacation. Being the major sports fans we are, as you could tell by the Sports Center comment. We decided to go to Anaheim and see the Angels play the Yankees. Can I just say I am on cloud nine. I am literally counting down the days to see the Yankees. We have never done anything like this…EVER!!!! We actually haven't been on a vacation that wasn't work related or family related since our honeymoon. (I know sad huh) But that's what summers are for right?

I hope that you all have a great summer and do something you all enjoy or better yet, dream of.

Roni

R. I was welcomed at Viewmont Elementary this past week, and got great reviews from the first graders. The children were thoughtful and insightful at the same time. But I have to say-- out of ALL the classes I have met with, these little ones were absolutely, positively, by all means DELIGHTED and fun to interact with. Kids just say the dandiest things!
You know, I've mercilessly and enthusiastically written all of my books to deal with Halloween, mostly because I just love the holiday. It's a holiday where you can be something else, like a superhero or princess. But lately I've had a lot of people asking if I would want to write anything else--and I surprisingly I tell them yes--I actually have a full list of truly great things I am writing about. A lot of them are Fiction about family and a wonderful one about PCOS. No matter what subject I write about I think of the subject as some of kind of career choices. I thought that the release of Gordy would be the same as The Old Manor. But with the release of Gordy, it has been a very insightful and total different experience. My first review came from M. Ryan Taylor, if you haven't checked out his websites you absolutely, positively, by all means need to, because you will be DELIGHTED!
Although it is only May--I can't help but look forward to this fall. While on one hand, I am very grateful to have the book released and out now, but I can't help and think that it may be a long summer trying to sell a Halloween based book.
Particularly when Halloween is the furthest thing from your mind as you are kickin' it in the camp ground having a picnic in July. But, fall will get here sooner then we all think. I want to take a moment and thank you all for your support, without you this wouldn’t be possible. So….THANK YOU!

Happy Haunting!
Roni DaRonche

Tell me how you liked the book
I want your feedback! All the other pumpkins want Gordy to be a "Scary" jackolantern like themselves, but little Gordy just can’t manage it. In the end, his natural talent and disposition for cheerfulness pays off in the end. The story and illustrations are very cute. There is—in spite of it all—a fierce pride, toughness—and a uniquely American sense of Halloween spirit, shared by everybody (so far) who has read it, that's given me an uncharacteristic sense of optimism.
I am a very driven individual. When I put my mind to doing something I do it. And I am overall happy with the finished product. I never thought that I would find my way here, writing books. The process itself is fun, stressful, and even overwhelming at times. But once you see the finished product, you can't help but think (oh my gosh! this was and idea and now I am holding the book!)
This past Thursday, the book went live. And if nothing else, it is one of the most fun and whimsically printed books of mine so far. And now it is officially out. I'm proud of the look—and hope we managed to give a sense of how a Happy Halloween can be. I'm besotted by the book and writing world more so lately—and this book was a fun one to make.
If you didn’t pre-order and would like a book, please order through Barnes and Noble or Authorhouse.com.

Thank you for your continued support.
Roni

Upcoming Events
April 23rd, 2009- Viewmont Elementary
April 30th, 2009- Photo Shoot

Booking Events
I know with the economy the way it is today that many schools are not doing events, such as author spotlights, as the budget dose not allow. I'd been meaning to write it for a long time, largely because of my absolute delight and love for Halloween. I was fascinated by the idea of Gordy (a book so different from any other Halloween themed books) and curious about the response it will get. Now, ordinarily, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to write and do when my fingers arrive at the destination of the keyboard. There's been a lot of back and forth between me and the publishing house, editor, and the rest of the team about what, exactly we're going to change, add or overall delete by the time we hit the press. And last week during the final editing phase of the book, when I saw all the possible changes at the site of my beloved manuscript in the lovely bright RED, I knew immediately that this was not a week I was likely to be enthusiastic about.
Like I said, I usually have an idea of what I want to write. But I don't just sit down emerging stories or ideas, from my subconscious. That would be kind of cool though. Hmmmmmm… I should work on that.
I'm happily counting down, contemplating on events, thinking about whom we are sending Press-Releases too, and generally in the kind of mood that makes me want to get more sleep, make sure all my emails are answered and make sure I haven’t left anything out.
The last weeks of a book release is stressful, to say the least. I find myself focused and overwhelmed at the same time. Wanting to give my hand a rest as I sign off on all the edits, approvals, contracts, and agreements. The constant answering of messages, setting up events and keeping it all organized. As I arrived to a family gathering the other night, I couldn’t help but think, I need to check my email! Where is my phone?!?!? As looked franticly through the house trying to find my purse (I don't know who I would miss that carry on?) I noticed my nephews loving on my husband who sat relaxed and happy on the couch playing with the boys. What was I doing? Again stressing myself out, stretching myself thin and doing what I said I wouldn’t do. I had gotten overwhelmed and let my job rule my life. I grabbed my phone out of my bag. Flipped it open and turned it off. The emails, the missed calls, the texts will all be there in the morning, but family moments like this only last for that exactly, a moment!
I can’t miss out on this.

R. Most women have experienced a romantic experience, and the flutters in her stomach as a young girl getting that special Valentines card, And apparently, most women take the "Valentine's Day" thing seriously.
This past weekend while visiting Hallmark, it was funny to see men huddled around the "LOVE" cards, investigating each one trying to match the card's perfectly for that someone special. But, they were looking so lost and confused at the same time. In speaking with my husband about Valentine's Day, he's relentless about inquiring as to why Valentine's Day is even an actual holiday, pondering perhaps of yet again this is just another woman's holiday.
I find, that Valentine's Day, is a fun holiday more than romantic. My mother loves Valentine's Day. As a kid, she would make us a PINK breakfast. This usually included pink eggs, pancakes and milk. We would wait for the hint of strawberry taste in the milk. We would also awake to a cute box of chocolates and a Valentine's Day shirt or gift, sitting outside our bedroom doors. The excitement, made the day that more special.
To this day I still love Valentines. However, not all my Valentines have been romantic, and whimsical. Like everyone, the daily tasks of life sometime get the best of me. But one Valentine's Day was memorable. My husband and I were celebrating only after a few months of dating, apparently he wanted to surprise me with a bouquet of roses and Chocolate, and then take me to a nice dinner. Walking out to the site of flowers and Chocolate makes any girl melt. I stood there and smiled. He seemed very pleased about my response. As we got ready for dinner, we pulled up to the restaurant to find out that they were full. I asked my husband if he had made a reservation. NOPE—and FYI if you don't those tables can go fast. Topping out at 65 or 70, we drove around and around, finding that nothing was open, without a reservation. My stomach was growling and he finally pulled into the all mighty…………APOLLO Burger. I don't think I had ever laughed so hard in my life. I am sure that my ribs are still bruised from where my fingers dug into my sides, as I tried not to laugh. Here we were all dressed up and sitting at the drive thru of Apollo Burger. I however consider it one of the best Valentine's Day.
But however you choose to spend your Valentine's Day. I do hope that you enjoy it!
R. Movies not only convey the messages of romance but also will kindle the fire of affection within you.
1-Pride and Prejudice 2– Romeo and Juliet-1996
3-Titanic 4-You’ve Got Mail
5-Hope Floats 6-The Notebook
7-Walk to Remember 8-Love Actually
        9-Ghost 10– P.S I Love you

R. I hadn't been paying attention when the publishing house suggested it, and I looked at the prospect as a far away, slow moving train that would hopefully not arrive sooner than later and figured that in any case, it could be finessed.
But the train was here, now, 2009 doesn't wait around for you. A decision had to be made. And the book of Halloween poems and my new tween love story were looking like they were mighty strong contenders. Out of many of often terrifying rough drafts, there were actually a few really good ones. But choosing one or some of them for 2009. I mean, let's face it, how much harder could it be? Well let me answer that, it’s HARD!I urged you last year to take a look at The Old Manor, and give me your feedback. There's not much I can add to that (and what you read in the book) -- except to lavish even more praise on the remarkable book cover. It's only right, I think, that as a writer, perspective should be most relevant when talking about what the whole first time writer experience was like. It is yourself, after all, who you have to believe in, not anyone else. I can only tell you that I have come to learn that over the last year, my "experiences" of 2008, felt surprisingly ... liberating. I was able to do many wonderful things last year. I did my first photo shoot with the chipper yet lovable Jessica, owner of Moltobella Photography. I did many great school events for kids all ages, and sat on many boards. But it was not until I was walking through the St. George library to my conference room, where I was asked to do an Author spot light, that I was terrified. I didn’t know what to even say, and I had a speech prepared, Go figure! But once I got to the front of the room and stood behind the podium there was a strange relief, a comfort and relaxation as I stood looking at these perfect strangers. I was just like everybody else. And if there was one really big surprise, it's that many of the people I met had a sense of humor. Fact is I met a lot of funny, good natured, very, very generous people there. They actually had the capacity to ask questions and laugh.
As a final note, I hope that 2009, in some way is a wonderful year. And that my new book "GORDY" shall surely be a hit and what you have expected. I worked long and hard to find a great illustrator and Melissa Green pulled it off beautifully. I am excited to see the finished project. I will keep you all up to date on the release and status of "Gordy". And most of all I would be remiss if I did not have your friendship and support on this unusual but wonderful ride as a Author. So with luck, everybody, I am wishing you a wonderful 2009! May your goals and dreams come true.

Roni DaRonche

R. And No I'm not suffering from some kind of weird, holiday-life, delusional light urges or over the top Christmas spirit. It's just now the Holiday season, and Christmas is just around corner, where I get to sit down, talk about a lot of pretty obscure, insider family gossip and travel-related issues with some opinionated family members--and at the same time--eat for free at Aunt KK's house, whom I respect and find intensely interesting.
Where has this year gone?! I find us now busting out the holiday décor and Putting up the lights. Putting up the lights usually takes about four hours of my time…well I should say my husband's time to hang all the lights out side(nice!), yet the process requires a mammoth mouthed wife down below (that would be me) telling him how to hang them, and what not to do. Blue Rubbermaid bins, fills our garage where like most people we store the lights, and holiday décor, was jammed with an invading army of still unpacked boxes, the polar bear light, and exercise equipment.... It was like a space of forgotten items from 12 months ago -- something I'm not used to.
My husband loves to go all out for Christmas. We are lucky enough to live by family and each year it's a race to see who can put up the lights first and who has the most lights in there yard. In the hard economic times of today, I have found that I (like many others) are watching my spending, not going out as much and trying very hard to stay on a budget. So I was surprised by the bustling crowd of shoppers, on black Friday. I found that I was asking myself: "Do I really need this?", "Should I be spending this money on someone who needs Christmas more?" And the issue on everybody's mind -- at a moment when the economy teeters on the precipice: "Is it ethically okay to blow $1,800 bucks on Christmas?" Pondering these questions as I wandered the store. The voice of Ebenezer Scrooge in one ear and the voice of my own heart in the other. One was better-suited to answer correctly.
On the bright side, I did get some great deals, and my husband and I bought Christmas for a very deserving family -- and we got -- a truly extraordinary and touching feeling; about that, I feel unreservedly great. If you haven't done something charitable or kind this season? Do so at first opportunity. It's truly rewarding. But, we should remember this throughout the year. Not just around the Holiday season.
I hope that this Holiday season is wonderful and magical. May you enjoy your family and friends.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
Roni DaRonche

Writing Santa!
As a child I remember sitting down and writing a letter to Santa. My mother sitting next to me smiling, as I colored a beautiful picture of reindeer for Santa’s eyes only. Then off she would take me to the post office and I would be able to drop the letter off in pure excitement knowing that Santa would soon read my letter. Then as I got older you could call Santa and give him your Christmas list. (I did that about 10 times in one day at my aunt K.K’s house) I still remember her asking me if I called Santa. “NOPE, it wasn’t me”. I should have been on the naughty list.
Even though I don’t have children yet. I still get the excitement and joy of watching my nephews get excited about Santa. My sister in law called my husband last year and asked to speak to Santa. My husband was so thrown off when my nephew Justin got on the phone and apologized to Santa for being bad. My husband was talking in a deep Santa voice, and once he hung up, started laughing hysterically. The pure innocence of a child.
Well, now a days there is an awesome website, where you can email Santa. See the attached link. Yes, I tried it and Santa did write back. Try this with your kids, they will love it! HO HO HO
http://www.emailsanta.com/

Bookings for the Next Year........
This next year is going to be a very busy on. With the release of “Gordy” and the great events already planned for “The Old Manor”. I am trying to have all my events up and booked. As you know though, I am excited to fit in any class visits, assemblies and speaking arrangements for schools. If you have a child, and would like to have me come visit. I will be more then happy to squeeze that in. I will also send you information on what is discussed at the events. I know that there are still some people that have asked for this, yet we have not set up a time. Please know that I have not forgotten you!
Please contact me at the following email.
Halloweenbooks2007@yahoo.com

R. I had not been to St. George in years and was surprised how big the city had gotten. As I arrived at the Library they had a wonderful conference room set up for my speaking engagement. I was not sure what kind of crowd we would draw, but there was actually alot of people. I spoke for about an hour and afterwards, noticed that two of my favorite people snuck in. Bryan and Becky Smethurst are dear family friends. I used to watch their kids when I was a teenager. I was so surprised to see them and have them come and see me. The library staff was great too. I thank everyone who came and hope you enjoyed the book.

R. The turkey roasting in the oven, the sweet smell of candied yams, and the aromatic spices of stuffing that greats your nose with a wiff of pleasure as you enter the door of your loved ones home. Yet, if you came to my house my turkey would have a stench all its own. It smells like fear ... and oh yeah, burnt yams and undercooked turkey. You would think coming from a family of Italian's who love to cook and cooked for their living, that I may have been adopted by the fact of the burning wreckage of my cooking experiences. I can't cook, yet I can bake.
Well … it's that time again and turkey day is just around the corner. This year I'm under the pressure to make some delightful dish for both my family and for my husbands. Is it too late to call Marie Cal lenders? No...No....I am going to make a great dish. I have yet to decided, so I figure that if I walk aimlessly around the grocery store I might get an idea.
I like to cook, I just can't. I try to follow a recipe and some way some how, I mess it up. So as I walked each isle of the grocery store, all eyes seemed to follow me, like they were thinking "poor thing, she doesn't have a clue". I wished I had a big floppy hat I could have pulled down over my head (if not my whole body). All I could privately think to myself is "keep walking, worst case, grab a cook book on the next isle" And , "Don't screw this up … don't screw this up ... don't screw this up."
Good thing it's just family. They probley already have a back up plan for my dish anyway. At least I can laugh about it, right. I am lucky enough to spend the Holiday with my loved ones, and enjoy there company. I know that there will be bickering, pouting, laughing and probley a little yelling. But that is family. The best way to describe my family is pretty dang close to the "Big Fat Greek Wedding" movie. That would be my family, to a tee. And the man she marries, would be my husband and his family. Though they are total opposites we still love em'.
I hope that you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and are fortunate enough to spend it with family, friends, and loved ones. May you be "grateful" for all the many things, small or big.
Gobble, Gobble

R. My illustrations are amazing thanks to illustrator Melissa Green. She has really captured “Gordy” in the same light as I had envisioned. I am currently working with the publishing house now, going over revisions and editing of the manuscript. This is the time consuming part. Gordy is a short children’s picture book. I am very excited to share this book with everyone. The book will release by June of 2009. But will be promoted starting September 2009. I will keep you all updated. Thank you for your continued support, it all means so much!

So here is a sneak peek at “Gordy” thanks to illustrator Melissa Green. And pumpkins. And candy. His love for the holiday is already well established. But I discovered the other night that he adores ghosts. And that he goes absolutely bat crazy over the spider web decorations. This makes me very proud. As you may or may not know (or care), we hold our Annual Halloween party each year. This year we decided to go all out--having a particular and distinctive sound and look usually ripped off from a scary movie we admire. We looked, for instance, at a lot of local Halloween shops, trying to get the “effect”, slow panning, and carefully composed gory food. Our guest started to arrive and the costumes were terrific. We had everything from the bride of Frankenstein, to Rosie the Rooter. The creativity of our friends and family was the whole and entire inspiration for an awesome Halloween Party. It transformed a kind of Halloween essence to the party. Seeing all these different costumes and people having a great time was so worth all the planning.Let me stress here that I'm not comparing our party to any other party...I'm just sayin'. I'm just saying we liked 'it a whole helluva lot--so we will try to come up with ideas and the atmosphere for next year, well, we will do the best we can (in our own cheesy, low-tech way).I'm very proud and happy when guests--especially those from within the family-- notice that the work and time spent on the effect of the party, take you back to your younger carefree days of Halloween. Much hard work and a lot of truly ingenious innovation have gone into making the party this year: difficult hanging of the spider webs, black lights rigged throughout the house, the masks, and acts of foolhardy athleticism on the part of my loving husband (Who had to reach and get everything for me, since I am vertically challenged).I should make particular mention of the brilliant, home-made "pumpkin Dip" and 7-layer bean dips brought. Basically, it was a free for all of food and drinks, mounted on are tables, resulting in a super gory yet-effective and delicious panorama. Having friends, and family come each year, only gets better and better. It was a truly astounding time with them all. Terrifying--even if you knew who was under the mask or hiding beneath the effects of make-up. I thought it was the perfect party. But, people, this Halloween let your self be drawn into the mystical world of magic the season brings. Go get that costume you wished you had done when you were younger and do it now. Just because we get older and wiser, doesn’t mean we still can’t be kids.
Seeing all these different costumes and people having a great time was so worth all the planning.
Let me stress here that I'm not comparing our party to any other party...I'm just sayin'. I'm just saying we liked 'it a whole helluva lot--so we will try to come up with ideas and the atmosphere for next year, well, we will do the best we can (in our own cheesy, low-tech way).
I'm very proud and happy when guests--especially those from within the family-- notice that the work and time spent on the effect of the party, take you back to your younger carefree days of Halloween. Much hard work and a lot of truly ingenious innovation have gone into making the party this year: difficult hanging of the spider webs, black lights rigged throughout the house, the masks, and acts of foolhardy athleticism on the part of my loving husband (Who had to reach and get everything for me, since I am vertically challenged).
I should make particular mention of the brilliant, home-made "pumpkin Dip" and 7-layer bean dips brought. Because after all, we are still kids at heart hidden by the age of our bodies.
So proudly display your costume, smear some fake blood on a pair of old jeans for the "Zombie" effect, rat your hair and brake out the polyester. Just use your amazing feat of imagination, and enjoy your Halloween.

R. You cant help but get the feeling of a young trick or treater your self. It instantly takes you back to when you were a kid, you can smell the crisp air, hear the laughter of kids running from house to house, and the excitement of gripping your pillowcase, not knowing what candy to expect as you wait on the front porch of your neighbors home.
The scene just after show the parents dancing and celebrating at the town hall, decked out in their own costumes. I’ve always admired adults who don't let the "Halloween" age conception ruin a perfectly good holiday, It doesn't matter if you are -- the young, the older, a boy, a girl, a teen or a parent --if you love the holiday, celebrate it!
I love the fall, most of you already knew that. I look forward to those few months of crisp air, and the smell of leaves in the air. In any case, we’re starting into the cooling season of September. I’m heading down to St. George with my husband and my mother in law, as I was invited to the Author Spot Light held at the St. George Library. They invite authors to come and share there experience and share their books with the public. It’ll be nice to see the response, of those who have not read my book, but I do hope that we have a good turn out. I get so excited in sharing my book with others, I don't have to sell a million copies (although that would be wicked awesome) But to know that someone is getting the joy and same excitement I got in writing the book, is the coolest feeling in the world.
So I got the illustrations for the new book "Gourdy". The illustrations were done by Melissa Green. As she proudly presented me with the finished product, gripping the folder with a final squeeze and passing it to me with her hands, I noticed she was holding her breath. She did a fantastic job, the illustrations are bright and colorful, and gourdy is just how I imaged him. The original deadline for the book was for October, but do to some set backs we are looking at a later release date. More on the beginning of the year. So we will be doing a release date of next fall. They were perfect.

R. With the Salt Lake Halloween Parade Committee

Roni DaRonche is a local Utah author and an all around sweet person. I'm guessing it's not only her love for all things Halloween which prompted her to help with the parade planning, but she's also a people person. I gotta say, I've spied a pic of her favorite costume and it's pretty fantastic! Please enjoy a quickie with Roni!
What do you love most about Halloween?
I love everything Halloween. I love the smell of the candles burning in the pumpkins, the way the leaves dance across the street, the decorating, and the laughter kids trick or treating and how, for just a moment you feel like a kid again. I love having that small little spook and chill. There is just something about it.

Tell us your favorite ghost story
I would say The Old Manor.

Quick, fave Halloween Costume!
My all time favorite Halloween costume was when I was "Winnie Sanderson" from the Disney Movie Hocus Pocus. I made my costume from scratch. It was one of the best costumes ever. I haven't topped it yet.

What's your most memorable scary movie moment?
I would have to say Scream. I HATE the mask and costume. When it came out I watched it with my mom, and we were both freaked out. My sister who was in college at the time drove all the way from Salt Lake to our home town in American Fork. She was knocking on my window. I would look out and no one was there. She did it a few more times, still I saw nothing. So I thought well, maybe I will check the front door. As soon as I opened my bedroom door and started to walk down the hall, I heard it. The front door opened. I froze. Paralyzed from fear, I stood there in the hall. My brain telling me to run, my body stiff like a board , not moving. I looked down the hall and saw a black sheet running towards me, closer, and closer. I could make the mask out. OH MY GOD, the SCREAM guy came to my HOUSE!!!! I started to scream and ran into the bathroom and locked the door. Screaming and shaking in fear as the figure hit the door. Then it stopped and I could hear my sister laughing. I was so upset I chased her outside screaming at her. Needless to say Scream has stuck with me. and its one of my favorites.

What's your fave horror novel ever?
5-My all time favorite horror novels would be a tie between Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and Bram Stokers Dracula. I think it those two stories are two of the most terrifying stories ever written. They were able to make the reader stop and look around, as your heart is beating rapidly from terror. The books are a legacy and has been for generations of readers.

ABOUT RONI DARONCHE:
I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1980, during a brief blip in my growing up, I lived in Sandy, Utah. My mother remarried and we settled in American Fork by the time I was seven. My name was given to me by my mother who named me after my dad.Though I have had my name spelled and spoken wrong on pretty much everything my entire life long, I must admit that it sticks with you, and is much easier for people to remember. I have two brothers and three sisters. I am somewhere in the middle. My father was in the military and thought me how to be determined and diligent. My mother has been an inspiration, she is such a strong woman. She never fails to amaze me.
I went to high school in American Fork, Utah. American Fork was so small when I lived their. We had finally gotten a Wal-Mart my senior year. It was a small country town. Where everyone cruised main street and went to the "sticky shoe" Movie theater. How the times have changed. I don't even recognize it these days. The shopping centers and the new homes where the fields used to be.
During my high school years I played softball, and was also in the Marching Band and Concert Band. I played the flute. Music is such a strong influence in my life and a huge part of my writing. I get so many great ideas for writing by listing to music. It is amazing how you can be taken to a total different place, just by listing to a piece of music.
I met my husband, Dan when I was a senior in high school. (Thanks to the SCREAM sister) and we married six years later. We've been together for 10 years now, and have a dog named Hoss. We love to spend time traveling, camping and doing anything outdoors. He is such a strong supporter in my work. I LOVE YOU DAN!
The Old Manor is my very first book, and it has been such a wonderful ride and experience. I have been able to meet some wonderful people, and my book signings have been a blast. I have always loved Halloween and knew that I wanted to write about it. So most of my stories are about Halloween or revolve around the Halloween Theme.
The Old Manor Synopsis:
It was moving day. Rachel and her mother were packed in the car and on there way to Apple Cove. Her mother had just remarried and she was now going to be one of four children. She hated the thought of moving, starting a new school and meeting new friends, this was a huge adjustment. But, then she met McKenzie and Whitney. Little did she know that her life would take a great new turn. They decided that this Halloween was going to be the best as they had the chance to volunteer at The Old Manor. They had heard the stories about The Old Manor before, but were the stories true? The three of them had no idea that volunteering at The Old Manor would mean being entangled in the stories of the Manor itself. Will they set out to find the truth of The Old Manor? And will they make it out alive?
THANKS RONI!

R. All around me, millions of little events take place that are beyond my awareness. Many of these events will have an effect on me, yet they lie beyond my short reach of influence. But God has each little action within his view. He is not unaware of even the tiniest incident that will touch my life. He has a limitless perspective on things that is simply beyond my ability to comprehend. But, sometimes it hits you like a brick wall.
You start to notice that you are so wrapped up in your daily life such as work, bills, family and life itself, that you forget the BIGGER picture. I know that we have all heard people say, "I want a new car, mine is so old." and its like two years old, or "I just bought this or that", we never look to see or even stop and ask what is really important in life. This last Sunday we said our goodbyes to our dear family friend Joe Cannell. As we sat in the crowded Fourier, seeing and greeting many familiar faces with no words just meaningful embraces and tears, you couldn't help but notice the faces in which I did not recognize yet you still felt you had a close connection to . As the speakers told stories (all were very different) they all had said one thing in common. Kindness and being yourself. That's what Joe was. He didn't care who you were. He treated everyone like they were gold. He had touched and influenced everyone he met in some way.

I met Joe about 10 years ago, when my husband and I first started dating. He welcomed me with open arms. My in-laws had been friends with Joe and Missy for over 30 years. Joe catered our wedding, and always snuck a little something sweet and extra to our table when we would go and eat. He was a kind, caring and supportive man. He never said an unkind word about anybody.
This made me reflect on my own life. What can I do to be a better person?
By doing something so small such as smiling kindly at a person walking down the street, helping someone in need, just listing to someone. That may be a small thing to us, but to that person, that could be the biggest and best thing we could give them. I can only hope that I go thorough life as happy and as helpful as Joe was. Making some kind of imprint on others life's and really appreciating life. We miss you Joe!

R. The box was filled with memories of growing up, vacations, lost friends and more. As I sat in the middle of my study at home, the memories flooded me. There was an intimacy of looking at those young faces and smiles. As I riffled through the box, taking each photo out and studying it, most of the time laughing. It takes you right back to that moment in time. I had suppressed the memory, yet as soon as I saw the photo it took me right back. After laughing at my photos of old hair do's, clothes and getting over the "what the hell" were you thinking moments. I started going through all the papers. God, love her. My mother saved everything. She had awards, certificates, and even ALL my report cards. I was pretty sure that I had tossed a few back in the day, but my mothers persistence obviously proved me wrong. There were notes from junior high school, from friends. They were more like two page letters, not the short "Hey want to meet me at the movies? Check yes or no" type of notes. As I read a longer note, you forget why it was so important you at that time, but as I read it, I was 15 again and back in my room where I grew up, in a spilt second. You never really forget the depth of someone’s character, and soul, but the memory was so wonderful to ready it in the lines of a letter or note from someone who had such a place in your heart at that time or for the rest of your life.
I wouldn't have thought to save this items, but I am sure glad the my mother did. It's been over 10 years, it was or I should say has become a piece of history. My history. Over the years with the growing technology of computers has slowly taking over our lives, the art-form of writing letters starts to fade away. I still write in a journal ideas, and memories, but like most of us, I use the computer more often. I picture myself as an older woman, talking to my grand children and telling them “back in my day, people wrote letters and notes to one another on something called paper, rather then sending a text message. I am sure that they will stare at me in wonder talking about those strange things they can hardly imagine.

Happy Haunting~
Roni

R. Sure, they do furnish are study well, but the realities of our home becoming bombarded with a bund of books in the past few years have slowly worn down my inborn pack-rat mentality and replace it with a permanent (I’m hoping) mood of wild and reckless deaccessioning.

Since we have finished our basement and have started to move into the rooms over the past month. My new policy for my office and library, more or less, is to get rid of most of the books once I’ve read them, keeping only those that I’m pretty sure I’ll want to refer to later or that have really great pictures-like this book about Haunted places in New York, that the particularly handsome husband of mine gave me, or this recent collection of photographs and vintage sports memorabilia of vanished players.

I am not saying I don’t have an awful lot of books-they’re just heavily weighted toward the unread. I like to think of my bookshelves as an enormous store that potential energy and endless places that I can be taken away to. Without paying the cost of Delta’s fees, that is. It’s more like having any vacation spot or movie right at my fingertips-and I am looking forward to the day when I am able to actually sit down with a warm cup of tea and read one, acting as if all the world’s bookstores have gone out of business, and I have to barricade my door against virus-infested zombies who want to drink blood and ravage my (unread) copy of "My guide to Zombie Survival".
So I felt a little appease when I was able to sit and read the great Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. I was able to fly through all three books in one week. It was to be taken away intertwined in a vampire love story. AAAAHHHHHHH delightful.

"Bookshelves are not for displaying books you’ve read…. They are very much into writing stories and love to read.

The class was full of questions. We covered how to get our ideas, editing, and even my favorite food. I had a wonderful time as did they. Mr. Van Hoose had the class ready to go as soon as I arrived, and the students couldn't wait to hear more. It is so wonderful that we have teachers like Mr. Van Hoose who not only interact with the children and given them all he can, but to set up wonderful events like this for the kids is great!

Thank Copperview Elementary!

R. The months have flown bye, like the warm summer breeze as we day dream under that big oak tree. I have had awesome opportunity's come my way, just as I dreamed long ago. The book has had a wonderful response and I have enjoyed meeting everyone and hearing how much they have enjoyed the book.
Just the other day as I was in my front yard with my husband Dan taking down Halloween decor, two young boys on bikes road up my long driveway and asked if I was one that wrote The Old Manor. I was so taken' back. These two young boys have read the book in a local elementary school. I was so excited! I asked how they enjoyed the book and they both stated that they loved it and wanted to know when the next one was coming out.
I can not tell you how such small words touched my heart. I have made a mark in this large world. I shared a story and they had joy given to them. WOW!
With the Holiday season fast approaching, keep in mind a book is a great gift, like The Old Manor! I am a first time author. I am so excited about my book "The Old Manor." it should be out in a few weeks. We have seen a slight delay in printing so we are kind of behind. The whole process though has been fabulous. It seems like the time has just flew, but in all actuality it has taken me about 4 years. I have enjoyed it so much.
Let's see a little bit about me.... Well I was born into a Large Italian family. Yes, I am full Italian. Growing up I have had the wonderful opportunity in traveling and seeing so many speculator places. My personal favorite. New York. I just love it there. Then I would say Florida. The waters are amazing.
I am married to the most perfect man in the world. He keeps me level headed. I just love him so much. I went to Weber State University in the Medical Field, for Health care Coding and Classification. I really am mesmerized by the medical field and healing. It is SO powerful. I love being outdoors, Broadway shows, anything musical, and just being with my family and friends.
I want to thank you all for supporting me and most of all the book. The many emails and letters received have been awesome! Thank you for your continued support.

Happy Haunting!
R. DaRonche

R.
